Kilometro Lanciato, Storie oltre il Limite
The first speed skiing event signed by Mario Cravetto dates back to 1972. Former director of Cervino s.p.a and responsible for some of the most important historical researches on the subject, his passion for this fast-paced race is manifested from a young age and grew stronger with time, until he eventually became the director of the cableways company and of all the events around it. “Speed skiing rhymed with Cervinia and if today we can reach unbelievable speeds like the ones of Valentina Greggio and the Origoni brothers, much is owed to technical experimentations on materials and positions that athletes put into practice on our slopes” says Mario Cravetto who, collaborating with writer Lorenzo Proverbio, jumped back in time in an emotional journey gathering stories, faces and media from the history of speed skiing.
Two precious volumes were born from the collaboration, named “Kilometro lanciato. Storie oltre il Limite”. A documentary on the subject will be presented in August 2017, giving voice to the main characters of speed skiing also through historical RAI films. “You used to climb the slopes walking with skis at your feet. There were no ascent facilities”, says Giuliano Trucco, long time director of the race. He had to blow up the slope in 1979 because of a dangerous sérac. These and many other stories are narrated in the exclusive exhibit that on July the 15th will be opened at the hydroelectric plant in Maen. “A total of 1500 photographs on twenty-six panels will showcase the history of speed skiing together with original artefacts characteristic of races” says curator Mario Cravetto. “Helmets, suits, aerodynamic appendices and unprecedented original documents will be exposed to the public until the middle of September thanks to CVA, Comune di Valtournenche, Cervino spa, Cervino Tourism Management, Cervino Cinemountain and Effedì”.
